Scopone in a nutshell

Played by 4 players in two fixed partnerships with a 40-card Italian deck: 9 cards each and 4 face up on the table, all cards dealt at once. On your turn play one card: if it captures (same rank, or a set of table cards summing to its value) you must capture. Clearing the table is a scopa (+1). At the end of each hand the points are counted: most cards, most coins (♦), the settebello (7♦) and the primiera. First team to 11 points wins the match.

How does the primiera work?

For each suit your best card counts: 7=21, 6=18, ace=16, 5=15, 4=14, 3=13, 2=12, face cards=10. Highest total wins; you need one card per suit and ties award nothing.

What is the target score in Scopone?

The match is won by the first team to reach at least 11 points at the end of a hand (some groups play to 21).

How many points are there in one hand?

At most 4 game points (cards, coins, settebello, primiera) plus 1 point per scopa.
